September always feels like a fresh start to me. The kids are back in school, routines are reworked to adjust for an early start and the sun setting earlier, and I begin to feel like "nesting" in preparation for winter. It's also the season for TONS of local festivals. Every weekend in September and October is jam-packed with harvest festivals, old home days, agricultural fairs, farm fairs, and Oktoberfests.
Here's my list of favorite festivals and fairs coming up in September and October. I'll be adding more to this list as more events are scheduled, so keep checking back!
September 14
Lowell Irish Festival at Lowell Memorial Auditorium. Free admission! Enjoy music, food, vendors, and step dancing.
Gurjar India Heritage Fest at Lowell Heritage Park (Pawtucket Blvd). A relatively new festival that celebrates the vibrant Indian culture in Greater Lowell. Enjoy performances, food, shopping, and music.
September 15
Burlington Truck Day A little outside Greater Lowell... but everybody LOVES a touch a truck!
September 21
Lowell Kinetic Sculpture Race This fun event features races in human-powered vehicles and sculptures constructed of repurposed materials.
Truck-A-Palooza, Toy Sale & Craft Fair (All ages) A touch a truck and gently used toy sale -- bliss for the kids!
Annual Pepperell Fall Festival Vendors, food, entertainment, hayrides, petting zoo, trucks and tons of fun!
Billerica Yankee Doodle Homecoming Parade and Fair This special day in Billerica includes a parade, fireworks, huge community fair, book sale, entertainment, music, food and so much more!
Annual Fall Farm Fair (All ages) This free fair includes cider making, farm animals, food, music, and harvest exhibits.
Annual KidsFest at Wachusett Mountain A two-day festival featuring vendors, entertainment, food, SkyRides, and music.
2024 Mill City Grows Harvest Day at the Farm Explore their urban farm and enjoy kids activities, a touch a tractor and a farm market.
Pumpkin Festival at Krochmal Farms Held every Saturday and Sunday through October 14, this event includes pumpkin picking, hayrides, pony rides and other activities.
September 28
Wilmington Fall Festival Vendors, games, activities, crafts, inflatables, music, food and entertainment!
GrotonFest Fall (All ages) Lots of vendors, organizations, food and entertainment.
3rd Annual Chelmsford Fall Festival (All ages) Enjoy a petting zoo, touch a truck, princess performance, inflatables, food and fun!
5th Annual Littleton Oktoberfest This event includes a beer garden, live music, food, games, inflatables, and craft vendors.
Westfest 2024 (All ages) Check out food trucks, activities, music, a vendor marketplace and games.
3rd Annual Lowell Hispanic & Latinx Fest 2024 Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month with performances, dance, food and fun!
October 5
Littleton Country Fair Shop the huge yard sale, enjoy family activities, entertainment and crafts, and pick up legendary jams and jellies.
Topsfield Fair This huge annual agricultural fair includes carnival rides, entertainment, giant pumpkin contest, exhibits, food and so much more. Runs from October 4 to 14.
October 6
Colonial Craft Day (All ages) Demonstrations of colonial crafts such as candle dipping, blacksmithing, cider pressing, hearth cooking and more. Music, Minuteman and history.
