This Week in Greater Lowell -- Giveaways and April Vacation Fun!

By Barbara Evangelista, Publisher April 11, 2018

Giveaway winner!  The winner of four tickets to PJ Masks LIVE! Time To Be A Hero at the Lowell Memorial Auditorium on April 25 is Ann Lemire of Lowell!  Ann, look for an email from me!

How is it possible that it's April already?  (Especially since it still feels like February.)  But April vacation is next week, then on to the lovely warmth of May and another busy summer.  If you're working on your summer camp plans, be sure to check out 27 different local and overnight summer camps and day programs in our 2018 Summer Camp and Kids Activities Guide.

Personally, now that my older kids are 15 and 13, I'm kind of dreading summer.  It's a whole different ball game with teens. Prepare yourself... teens actually want to have a say in the summer decision-making. I know, it's crazy.  (Totally kidding!)  But really, last summer I realized I can't just sign them up for camps all summer (and learned the hard way that dependent care savings accounts do NOT pay for camp for kids over 12.)  Right now, we're looking at counselor-in-training programs, maybe part-time work somewhere, or -- my daughter's preference -- an 8-week YouTube marathon.  I'd like to go on an epic road trip to make amazing family memories before they start working and become young adults.  I'm also checking out local volunteer programs using these great teen volunteering ideas from Macaroni Kid Teen.

Love the theater? We have two amazing giveaways this week!

Four tickets to Peppa Pig Live! Peppa's Big Surprise at The Hanover Theatre for the Performing Arts in Worcester on Friday May 11 at 6 PM

Four tickets to THE SOUND OF MUSIC at Boston's Boch Center Wang Theatre on Wednesday May 2 at 7 PM

Do you still need to find some activities for the kids over April vacation?  Check out our April Vacation Programs Guide and the April camps at the new Adventure Code Academy in Chelmsford. Sign up for just one day or all five!

Our Event Calendar is packed with TONS of activities in Greater Lowell for April vacation week. If you see an event that interests you, be sure to check if it says "Register in advance".  Spaces may fill up quickly during vacation week, so get your tickets or submit your online registration ASAP.  And if you change your mind, be sure to let the organizers know, so they can give the spaces to another family.

Mother's Day is coming up in a few weeks.  Here's a special plan for the day -- take Mom to the Mother's Day Brunch at Wamesit Lanes' Firewater Tavern and then go bowling!  (Moms bowl free!)  Or if Mom loves the theater, take her to THE SOUND OF MUSIC on Mother's Day at 1 PM.

It's also time to think about signing up for a CSA for fresh vegetables, herbs and fruit this summer. Learn more about CSAs in our Guide to Local CSAs.

Please always remember to tell the event hosts that you heard about their event on Macaroni Kid! Your support helps us to bring you this free newsletter and website. We are supported solely by our sponsors.
