Description

Groton Interfaith Council Walk of Lights + Community Tree Lighting

The Groton Interfaith Council (GIC) welcomes all to the Walk of Lights and Community Tree Lighting.

The lighting of our Groton tree has both religious and non-religious significance, the tree is a symbol with many meanings in a variety of cultures. Each year, the Groton Interfaith Council honors a citizen or group of citizens by asking them to be the honorary tree lighters, an honor bestowed because they have made significant contributions to the town.

We welcome community members to gather at Prescott Community Park for words of encouragement and appreciation of this year’s honorees: Prescott Community Center’s Leadership Team for their work in connecting area residents by being a hub for community. As GIC continually looks to increase faith representation in our area we honor the work of the many volunteers who have worked tirelessly to create space for people to gather harmoniously.

The event begins with gathering and words for our Honorees, followed by the Walk of Lights and Community Tree Lighting on Saturday, December 2nd at 4 pm at Prescott Community Park, 145 Main Street. Feel free to bring a lamp or luminary from your own faith tradition. Finally, attendees are welcome to visit Union Congregational Church, 218 Main Street for warmth and refreshments following the festivities.

Rain date: December 3rd at 4 pm
