Grotonwood is a welcoming and affirming Christian summer camp and retreat center based in central Massachusetts. Our home is the quaint and peaceful town of Groton, which is only 1 hour from Boston, 45 minutes from Lowell, and 30 minutes from Nashua.
We offer both day and overnight camp programs on our beautiful lakeside campus. Grotonwood’s unique amenities include a full size gymnasium with a climbing wall and plenty of space for basketball, volleyball, and other physical activities; a 1.5 mile waterfront on Lost Lake for daily swim blocks; and a lovely chapel that campers visit each day for “chapel time.”
Grotonwood also features miles of wooded trails for hiking and mountain biking, a low‑ and high‑ropes challenge course, an archery range, multiple campfire areas, and a sports field with a baseball diamond and soccer goals. We have a variety of bunking options and a dining hall that serves over 200 campers and staff for breakfast, lunch, and dinner.
Our Day Camp program is a trusted summer resource for many local families, offering full day care in a safe, active, and nurturing environment while parents work. We are proud to offer both full five-day sessions and “Flexi Days,” wherein families can sign up for single days of camp whenever it works best for them.
Our Overnight Camp provides a classic camp adventure: a chance to build independence, make new friends, and enjoy a week that feels like a vacation, respite, and rite of passage all at once.
TYPICAL CAMP ACTIVITIES: Typical activities include daily supervised swimming, archery, high and low ropes, Segways, biking, boating and kayaking, tubing, blobbing, sports, talent shows, fishing, relay races, wilderness survival skills-building, chapel time, and messy games!
FAITH-BASED ACTIVITIES: We plan our faith-based programming on the assumption that most campers are experiencing a Christian environment for the first time. Practical activities include group prayer, mostly before each meal. During chapel, campers will have the opportunity to learn action songs and learn about a different bible story each day. Chapel is highly engaging, age appropriate, and fun! Our overnight campers also enjoy evening vespers, which are short, reflective evening services. Participation in faith-based activities is voluntary, and campers do not have to be affiliated with any religious organization to take part. We simply ask that campers and families respect the Christian values we uphold and we meet each camper wherever they are at in their spiritual walk. We encourage curiosity, tolerance and respect through open discussion using Christianity as our foundation and springboard for understanding.
We offer:

Business Review
"Grotonwood has always been and continues to be a safe home away from home for my girls, whether at day camp or overnight camp. Our highlights include connecting with God, meeting new friends, and reconnecting with old ones. They’ve had the opportunity to work with counselors from different parts of the world, which has broadened their perspectives in such a meaningful way. My third daughter even wrote a poem about Grotonwood and continues to invite her friends to experience the special world of Grotonwood for themselves. I wholeheartedly encourage parents to give their children the opportunity to attend. My oldest has aged out, but she carries lasting memories and friendships. Recently, she even met up with camp friends for dinner in Connecticut after her tour at UCONN, a true testament to the lifelong connections Grotonwood fosters.” - Catherine (parent)
"Grotonwood is the best camp. I really do enjoy a lot making friends, it is a very great deal to me. I love everybody at camp see you all this summer. - Rex Young, camper, Facebook review
"Wonderful place for kids camp and church retreats, we loved it. Beautiful location on a lake." - Michael Dempsey (parent), Google review
"My three sons have attended as campers or worked here for the past 12 summers, and have also attended retreats and other youth events. It is like a second home for our family. I highly recommend it to anyone who wants a classic camp experience and for the working family who needs childcare/activities for the summer!" - Caroline Poser (parent), Yelp review
"I went Grotonwood when I was a child over 30 years ago. My sister & brother did too. It’s a great summer camp! 😊" - Bonnie Bisceglia (camper), Facebook review
"My kids and grandchildren have been going here for years since early 1980s. They absolutely love it!" - Joanne Jerz (parent), Facebook review
"Growing up I did multiple weeks at this incredible campgrounds. Starting at 10 years old up until I was about 16. I did 2 or 3 week long visits and have nothing but the best to say about the staff, the grounds and the experience. I wish I could go back (I’m almost 40 now). If you have children and are a Christian I highly recommend giving Grotonwood a shot. The chapel is beautiful, the pond is a great way to beat the heat and the food's actually really good. Mix it up with a trip to the water park or an afternoon bike ride. Or get some excitement with a game in the woods. I was terrified the first night, it was my first time away from home with strangers but Mark (the head counselor at the time) helped me to be more comfortable. Every day spent there after the first night was a gift. Am I rambling?… I’m rambling. Take care folks" - Max Walton (camper), Google review
"Working for Grotonwood was quite possibly the most fulfilling job I've ever had. The community and culture that is fostered there each summer is beyond comparison, and the fact that everyone is there to glorify God makes it all that much better. While the summer positions are not the most well-paid jobs, they more than make up for it in the experience and relationships that you gain throughout the summer. Some of my best memories and friendships have been a result of my time at Grotonwood." - Staff review, Indeed
