With summer quickly approaching, my family and I have been on the hunt for new parks and splash pads to add to our summer bucket list, and Mulligan Park in Lowell is the perfect find.
We visited on a Saturday morning and caught it at a quiet moment; it’s usually a pretty popular spot from what I can tell from driving by it.
The main playground is fully fenced in. There aren't any slides here, which was a bummer to my kids at first, but they all quickly got into all the climbing opportunities the park offers.
We spent a good chunk of time playing a game of "The Floor is Lava." Between the round steppers, ladders, and monkey bars, it’s the perfect spot to hop around without touching the ground.
There is a swing set with both regular and baby swings, and a wobbly chain-link balancing rope, which was a fun challenge for my five-year-old. By the end of our visit, he was whipping back and forth across it like a pro.
The smaller structure for younger kids has some kid-friendly details, including a tic-tac-toe game, gears on the wall, and a crawl-through tunnel. Underneath, there is a kid-sized bench and a pretend drive-through window for imaginative play.
Just outside the main fenced-in area, there is another play space with a web climbing dome, climbing bars, and spinning seats. There is a paved path around the playground, leading to the entrance of the splash pad as well as a whiffle ball field and volleyball court, plus benches, picnic tables, and grassy shaded areas to picnic or play.
There’s a shuffleboard court that my son used as hopscotch (but if you’re looking for actual hopscotch or other games like four square, they are painted on the ground in the splash pad area).
The splash pad has a handful of structures perfect for hot days - ground nozzles, a misting pole, an arched sprayer, and tipping water buckets. There’s also a large picnic pavilion alongside the splash pad.
The ground is wood chips, and while we noticed a little bit of litter that could use a quick cleanup, the equipment itself is clean, modern, and in great condition. It’s a really fun park with plenty to do for all ages. It wasn’t hot enough for the splash pad this time, but we’ll definitely be back!
Also, the park is super close to Target and Five Below. If your kids are anything like mine, you’ll probably be making a stop on your way home!
