O’Donnell Park in South Lowell has quickly become a new favorite of ours since its brand-new upgrade last year. Driving by, it’s hard to miss—the big dome climber and bright, modern equipment really stand out. Because it is located at a school, it’s used by students during school hours, but it’s open to the public otherwise and is a very popular spot.
The playground is fully fenced-in with rubber flooring. It’s usually busy with other kids when we visit, but it stays pretty clean considering how much use it gets every day.
The main structure has a curved slide, plus musical elements like a silver chime xylophone and some drums. Underneath the structure, there’s a grass hammock seat and more ropes to climb.

The web dome climber is the highlight for my kids. The area beneath the dome is designed like an obstacle course, with balance steppers, geometric shapes, and a circular yellow seat.

The inclusive merry-go-round sits flush with the ground, so it’s easy for kids to get on and off. There are also a couple of web swings.

A paved path that circles the playground has a few curved benches. A simple but unique little detail here is the interactive paths painted onto the pavement at the outer edge of the playground. There’s a series of squiggles, loops, and zig-zags that keeps kids moving and practicing their balance.

There are multiple sports courts as well —including basketball, pickleball, handball, and tennis — plus a baseball field.
Across the parking lot, there’s a splash pad (see our article with photos and descriptions) that we go to a lot in the summer. With a playground and a splash pad, this is the perfect summer spot for kids!
