Be among the first to experience Groton Hill Music School! On October 1st and 2nd, enjoy free classes for all ages and abilities, snacks, activities, and more inside the region’s inspiring new hub for music education and performance, now open at 122 Old Ayer Road in Groton, MA.

The highly-anticipated 126,000 square foot facility features 35 studio classrooms, two world-class performance halls and other performance spaces, and plenty of inspiration. Careful acoustic tailoring and views of the surrounding agricultural landscape provide a peaceful creative environment for practice sessions, private lessons, and ensemble rehearsals. Complementary high-speed wifi and ample seating create an inviting atmosphere where students and their families can relax, chat, and work.

At this special two-day Free Class Day event, there are opportunities for the whole family to learn and play! The littlest learners will love specialized early childhood classes that introduce young children to the joy of music. Ages one to four and parent or caregiver can sing, clap, dance, and play together in a Music for Aardvarks class. Four to six year-olds can explore rhythm in a lively Drum Buddies class, or and learn the basics of music and movement in Mandarin as well as English in an engaging multilingual Music and Motion class!

Ages five to nine will love the friendly first instrument experience of a fun and foundational Beginner Class in piano, violin, guitar, drums, ukulele, or flute. Or try a family recorder class! Young singers ages 4-13 can get the scoop on Groton Hill’s exceptional Youth Chorus program, meet the director, and experience first-hand what weekly rehearsals will be like. From basics of singing to blending in harmony, the free sessions demonstrate the developmental process in each level of the Youth Choruses, and introduce the special feeling of voices raised together in song!

Youth and teens ages 10 -18 can try classes in songwriting, join a recorder group, attend a masterclass-style piano seminar, jam in a traditional Irish session, or sing in harmony with our Groton Hill Youth Chorus.

Motivated youth musicians are invited to explore Groton Hill’s exciting, top-tier regional Youth Orchestra and Youth Wind Ensemble programs and attend an open rehearsal. The heart of the school’s new Saturday Ensemble Experience, these top audition-based ensembles are led by some of the most dynamic and experienced conductors in Massachusetts. Students accepted into this multi-level ensemble program will rehearse and perform in the inspiring world-class 1000-seat Concert Hall, work with renowned guest artists, and build skills and friendships to last a lifetime.

There are ample opportunities for adults to explore their musicality, too. Perhaps it’s time to learn something new, deepen your playing in an ensemble, or get connected to community. Bring passion to life with Intro to Songwriting, Traditional Irish Session, Collegium Musicum Baroque ensemble, Beginner Recorder, Ukulele, and the Artemisia Flute Ensemble.

Free Class Day is a fantastic free opportunity to experience the new Groton Hill Music Center and explore musical opportunities for your whole family this fall. Class sessions begin in October, so now’s the perfect time to try out a few before signing up!

Class sizes are small, and pre-registration is required.
