Fun Summer Holidays to Celebrate

By Holly Oโ€™Blenis, Contributing Writer June 21, 2023

When thinking of summer holidays, the Fourth of July is what typically comes to mind. Family time, cookouts, sparklers, fireworks, campfires and s’mores - it’s such a fun holiday! While this may be one of the only official holidays of the summer, there are so many more fun kid-friendly “national holidays” to celebrate too. Check them out below and make more fun memories this summer by celebrating the little things.

July 1 - Joke Day

Look up some jokes, buy a new joke book, watch a funny movie, or make up your own jokes.

July 7 - Chocolate Day

Make a chocolate treat like brownies or fudge, or get molds and chocolate wafers and make your own chocolate.

July 10 - Teddy Bear Picnic Day

Gather your favorite furry friends and have a picnic outside.

July 17 - Ice Cream Day

Make ice cream sundaes or go out for ice cream.

July 20 - Moon Day

Take some time to learn about outer space, read a book about space, use a telescope to check out the moon at night.

July 24 - Cousins Day

Spend some special time with your cousins, send them a homemade card, or text or FaceTime them.

July 28 - Waterpark Day

Visit a nearby water park or splash park.

Aug 4 - Chocolate Chip Cookie

Have fun baking cookies, deliver some to family or friends as a random act of kindness.

Aug 6 - Sisters Day

Give your sister some extra love and spend the day doing all the things you love to do together.

Aug 8 - Bowling Day

Kids Bowl Free at Wamesit Lanes this summer if you sign up at https://www.kidsbowlfree.com

Aug 9 - Book Lovers Day

Visit a local bookstore or library, revisit your favorite books, lend a book to a friend or donate books you book longer need to the library.

Aug 10 - S’mores Day

Have a fire and try some different s’mores combinations (Reese’s or Nutella instead of regular chocolate is delicious!)

Aug 15 - Relaxation Day

Have an at home spa day, skip the chores, relax as a family.

Aug 26 - Dog Day

Spend the day with your dog, visit a dog park or take them on a long walk, get them a special treat or toy. No dog? Volunteer at a local animal shelter and walk a dog, or read a book with a dog main character (my family’s favorite is Dog Breath by Dav Pilkey).

Aug 31 - Eat Outside Day

Grill, picnic, or dine outside at a restaurant.
