10 FREE Games for Kids to Play on Virtual Calls

By Shannon Gaither, Publisher Macaroni Kid North Shore & Newburyport May 20, 2020

With school out for the remainder of the year and kids missing their friends, we need to get creative to help our children connect with their friends. Macaroni Kid is here to help! We've rounded up a list of 10 free games that kids can play with their friends over Zoom, Google Meet, etc.

1. Would You Rather  - A fun and simple fame for kids of all ages to play. It keeps them entertained while challenging their brain by getting them thinking about the what-ifs. When you send out the meeting invitation, you could also include a list of questions like this one we found with 200 Would You Rather questions. Then the kids can take turns asking a question and having the other give their answers.

2. 20 Questions  - A mind game that doesn't require any equipment to play. All you have to do is take turns picking a category, for example, animals. Then have the other kids as questions until they can guess the animal or stop when they get to 20 questions - whichever comes first.

3. Bingo - It doesn't get much easier than bingo! You can use a website like My Free Bingo Cards to play.

4. Scattergories - Great for all ages! To play, you can visit this free game generator (don't forget to share the link with the other kids that will be on the call).

5. Name, Place, Animal, Thing  - To play, pick a letter and each player has to list a famous person's name, a place, an animal, and a thing that begins with that letter.

6. Pictionary  - A classic party game that translates perfectly to virtual! To play, divide the kids into teams and open a Pictionary Word Generator, then choose a team to start the game as well as a designated drawer for each of the teams. The drawer generates a word and has 1 minute to draw the word for the team to guess. The team that guesses correctly, gets a point. If you use Zoom for your meeting, you can use Zoom's whiteboard feature. You'll need to click the share screen button in your meeting toolbar, select the whiteboard, and click share.

7. Charades - Another classic game that doesn't require a big set up or gathering of materials. You can play with as few as two players or as many players as you want. Just choose your teams and talk with your team members through individual chats to get going.

8. No, because  - Similar to 20 Questions but a tad more challenging. You play but having one player think of an object and the other players try to guess what it is. It's best to have pre-determined categories like food, animals, people, etc. Get the details here

9. Hangman - Using Zoom's whiteboard feature, this game allows participants to add text, shapes, and drawings on the screen. It can be played as a two-person game or you can make it multi-player by taking turns to guess letters.

10. I Spy - It couldn't get much easier! Players just visually explore each other's backgrounds to find items. It works best if each player's background includes a number of items.
