It's Apple Picking Time at Farmer Dave's in Dracut and Westford!

Those cool, crisp fall mornings are beginning to creep in which means it is apple picking time! Farmer Dave’s at 437 Parker Road in Dracut is minutes off of Route 93 but you wouldn’t know it. The thirty acres of beautiful farmland tucked in between Routes 110 and 113 includes an apple orchard containing 2000 beautiful dwarf apple trees as well as fields and greenhouses where crops are grown for the Community Supported Agriculture program, farm stands and farmers markets.

The apples grown in the Dracut orchard include early, middle and late season varieties. In August Zestar, Paula Red and Ginger Gold are picked. The middle season varieties include McIntosh, Gala, Golden Delicious, Jonagold, Mutsu, Macoun, Fuji and Cortland. The varieties that mature the latest include Goldrush and Braeburn. We are fortunate that we have so many varieties that mature at different times, and span the entire fall season. Take the hayride through our fields and see the crops, and our bees on the way to the orchard. The Dracut farm also has a family-friendly corn maze and potato digging as additional add-on activities.

Hills’ Orchard in Westford is an older, beautiful conserved town orchard for which Farmer Dave’s is the caretaker. This orchard contains many of the same varieties of apples as in Dracut plus some heirloom varieties.

Both the Dracut and Westford locations will have a selection of produce fall favorites, raw honey from our farm, cider donuts, apple cider, made-from-scratch baked good and seasonal decorations.

Stock up on apples to make homemade applesauce to can or freeze; or prep and freeze for apple pies and crisps; freeze or can apple jam and apple chutney. There are so many ways to enjoy the harvest now and later.

Farmer Dave’s is also offering apple picking school tours. Students will take a hayride through our crops on the way to the apple orchard followed by a lesson about our farm bees. We schedule one group per time slot so don’t wait too long to book your tour!

Apple picking will take place on Saturdays and Sundays in both the Dracut and Westford locations from 10 AM to 5 PM, with the last orchard admittance at 4 PM.
