Kohlrausch Park has always been a family favorite of ours, and it just recently got even better thanks to some fun playground updates including a zip line and a swing set.
Aside from the updated play structures, the park has a firefighter themed playground which is fun for little ones and encourages pretend play. Kids can climb, slide, ring the fire bell, bounce on a fire truck spring toy, and get dizzy on spinning structures. There’s even a photo stand-in where kids can get their photo snapped of them as a firefighter.

The larger play structure is good for all ages and includes a few slides, monkey bars, and a tunnel.

The area that holds these structures is fully fenced in, however, the new zip line and swing set is only partially fenced in. There are two different zip lines to ride and several swings, including baby swings, regular belt swings, and a handicap swing.

There is a spacious field for practicing sports and a paved path loop around the field. Along the path is a story walk called “Owl Babies” that is also readable in braille, which I think is a beautiful and inclusive touch. People from all walks of life can enjoy these simple things. There are also several “Four Square” courts painted onto the blacktop at the edge of the park, along with a hopscotch board.
Two pavilions with picnic tables provide a place to eat or catch some shade. The grassy hill and some spots along the field also provides some shade. There are a few benches located in the playground as well as several more along the walking path.
The pros of this playground are the location, the variety of play equipment, the spacious grassy area, the walking path, and the fact that it is well maintained. I can’t really think of any cons! We have always loved coming here and are happy about the new updates. It’s the perfect park for an afternoon of playing, riding bikes or walking, and picnicking.
