What Sets MRT Teens Apart?

April 17, 2019

What sets the Merrimack Repertory Theatre Young Company summer program for teens apart? It’s teens telling their own stories about their actual lives. Teens write and perform their own stories about everyday life: romance, prejudice, dreams, bullying, parties, sports, authority, and more.

In creating their own plays, the teens learn to develop their own voice through writing scripts and through learning to perform (acting, improv, and musical theatre). The program gives them the opportunity to express their own ideas and build community through public speaking and theatre creation. Professional actors and playwrights affiliated with MRT teach the classes, and the course ends with a public performance at the theatre.

The summer program for MRT’s Young Company runs 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Monday through Friday from July 15 to August 2 in downtown Lowell. Nationally recognized creative producer, director, and performer Will Rogers will return to lead the program. Young Company continues to meet during the MRT season, offering a window into the fascinating work of professional theatre artists. Opportunities include rehearsal and tech observation, workshop attendance, and master classes and artist talks.

The all-inclusive rate for the full program is $625. Past Young Company participants may register for only $450.
