Davis Farmland
145 Redstone Hill Rd
Sterling, MA

We planned a trip to Davis Farmland as a fun adventure with my visiting  "farm living" Aunt and my three children.  Located in Sterling MA, Davis Farmland is a short road trip for a perfect family day filled with exciting things to do.  This discovery farm is perfect for families with children 12 and under.  We entered through the gates on a very hot summer Monday morning.  Each of us was given a special numbered wristband so no child could leave the farm without their family.  I really like this extra precaution.  As you enter the farm, you have an option to purchase a cup of feed for the adorable animals you will encounter.  They also have wagons and strollers to rent for the day.

My children ages 5, 5 and 2 were so excited to jump right into the fun.  We started with Imagine-Acres, where you can do things like sand and water play, or bounce on a Jumbo Jump Pad (think bouncy house the size of a real house with no walls). SO FUN!  Play Structures and Baby and Me Swings can also be found in this area.  My daughter really enjoyed MooTown USA, a play area equipped with a toddler sized General Store, Ice Cream Shop, an Animal Vet and even a Campground with the cutest camper ever! We definitely could have spent more time in this area, but Mommy was ready to go see the animals.

Our next stop was the Animal Showcase, where you can feed, pet, and cuddle with animals such as goats, ponies, sheep, pigs, deer, cows, a turtle and even a camel... just to name a few.  Some of the animals roam free in this area, making it very easy to have a friendly encounter.  Parents, keep those snacks and drinks covered in your strollers and wagons; these animals know how to get right into your bags!!  They also like to nibble on curly locks, so my curly headed trio was an easy target.  There is a Safari Hayride that takes you to the back of the farm to meet the larger animals.  We deciding to skip the hayride, as we were literally melting from the August heat.  Luckily, Davis Farmland also has Adventure Play and Spray!  And THAT was our next stop.

We quickly changed into our swimsuits in one of the large family bathrooms.  We could not get to that water fast enough.  Walking into the splash pad area was like walking into a separate park. It is amazing! They have your typical splash pad equipment, like misting rainbow rings, a spraying sunflower, water tower, and a kiddy car wash.  They really put thought into making it fun for children infant to 12 years old...even for the parents!  There is a pit filled with foaming bubbles, an inflatable slip and slide and a large inflatable water slide. (My kids really loved these features.)

After frolicking through the Adventure Play and Spray, we had really worked up an appetite. Lunch time!  The farm does allow you to bring in your own food and drink. We decided to eat at the Herd Rock Cafe, just one of the food establishments located on the farmland. If your little one loves trains, make sure to spy the choo choo that chugs along the wall while you are eating.  This cafe had many healthy options for both the kids and adults. Things like salad shakers, hummus, yogurt, wraps and even a BBQ pulled pork macaroni & cheese parfait. WOW!  Are you hungry yet?!

Our day wasn't over.  After we rested our bellies, we were off to Adventureland.  This fun area of the farm has an 80 foot slide.  The little ones grab a mesh mat and make their way to the top of the slide then Weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! Down they go.  My daughter's first trip down was both hilarious and a little terrifying. She flopped a little and ended up going down backwards and head first. However, that didn't stop her from getting up and heading straight back up to the top with her big brothers. If your little one has a need for speed, the pedal go-carts are just next door to the slide. We practically had to drag one of my twins off the race track. "One more lap Mommy! Just one more!"  Also located in this area are the most beautiful trees, perfect for hiding under and taking a break. We had a fun little game of "Find Mommy" in these fun cave-like trees.  As if these activities weren't enough, they also have a dig for dinosaur bones and multiple play structures in this area. Seriously, so much to do.

If you are thinking of heading to Davis Farmland mid-September, they also have an orchard with pick your own apples and a pumpkin patch to pick out that perfect pumpkin.  The farm has a scheduled Costume Character Day and a Halloween Party.  They even offer sleepover campouts at the farm.  Make sure to check out their website at davisfarmland.com for details and prices.  You should also always check their website before planning your trip, as well as the morning of your trip.  Davis Farmland does close the farm due to poor weather, such as a rainy day. So, if the sun is shining, you should be good to go for a fun family day at Davis Farmland!  Say hello to Peanut the Camel for me!
