Groton Public Library is located in the center of Groton on Main St / Rt 119. Getting to the library the first time may be challenging. To access the parking lot, you will need to take your first left past the library (if headed North on Main St) onto Broad Meadow St, followed by the first left onto Playground Rd. The Children’s Room is handicap accessible, located on the same floor as the parking lot.
The library is part of the Merrimack Valley Library Consortium, which allows library card holders from any of the participating libraries to check out the books with their library card or by providing first and last name of the card holder to the librarian.
The first thing that will surprise you as you walk into the building is the size of the Children’s Room. The Children’s Room is a large inviting space, complete with a toy kitchen, a doll house, a puzzle table and a puppet theater. The shelves are filled with picture and board books, chapter books, audiobooks and reference books.

There are several themed stations for kids to explore and plenty of space both for readers seeking quiet time and for noisy toddlers. Our favorite was the puppet theater complete with a felt board, which can be used for play announcements and storytelling, and comfy kid sized chairs for the audience.
There is a large collection of puzzles and puppets, as well as lots of very inviting sitting areas with bins full of books.
The family restroom is located next to the Graphic Novels / Summer Reading section; additional restrooms are located on the upper floors.
You can’t miss the two valentine Guinnea Pigs, Baby and Bandit in the Children’s Room. Stop by to say “Hello!” - they love visitors!
Programs
The library offers storytimes for children ages Infant through Preschool on Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays during the months of September to April. (Most storytimes are listed on our event calendar.)
School Age children in grades 2 - 5 can take part in monthly Book Discussion Groups.

There are 3 computers with Internet access and many educational games for children located in the Children’s Room. Computers are also available for looking up titles from the library catalog. There are a couple of self-checkout stations.

Our Picks
My son’s favorite was a large graphic novel section with lots of titles ranging from Dogman to Pokemon series.
I was impressed by the thoughtful touch of providing small book baskets for adults in the Children’s Rooms and for kids in the Adult Section.
