A Story Land Adventure

By Vanessa Bellitti, Contributing Writer July 25, 2018

Story Land..Where fantasy lives!! I'm sure you've seen the commercial, and you may know the jingle! My family and I were singing it all day during our special visit to Story Land, on a beautiful sunny day. Story Land is a great park for families to visit, located in Glen, New Hampshire, close to the beautiful White Mountains.  From story book characters to thrilling roller coasters, I do believe it has something for everyone.  I love that they have kept their classic and nostalgic look the same as when I was a child, while still adding new and exciting things for today's kids.

For our visit, our group consisted of eight children ages 23 months to 12 years. There were shows, rides, and interactive fun for even the littlest ones in our group.  From roller coasters to spinning tea cups to flying shoes, there really is a wide variety of delight for everyone. Height requirements for rides can be found on Story Land's website and on your handy dandy Park Map. The Polar Coaster was my twins' first roller coaster ride ever, just a few months after their fourth birthday last year.  I think this Mommy was more nervous than they were!! I held on to them so tightly. However, this year they went on without me wrapping my arms around them..time sure flies.

Best ride photo ever!!

My little ones and I were very excited to hear of the new Daniel Tiger's Grr-ific Day show.  It happens three times daily at Loopy Lab Theater (check your Park Map for times!).  We were late for the final show of the day but were still able to sneak right in and start singing and dancing with Daniel Tiger and Katerina Kittycat.  Of course my daughter had already fallen fast asleep in her stroller but one of my twins and one of my nephews got to jump in on the fun. The rest of the group of older children played in the Looby Lab, an interactive play area full of hundreds of balls and air pipes, during the short show. After the show, Daniel and Katerina posed for photos..that was my favorite part!

Cinderella and her Castle can be discovered at the back of the park, over a magical bridge and up a hill.  You can walk, dance, skip, or even take an enchanted pumpkin coach up to see her.  Don't forget to smile for the camera!  Story Land offers a Picture Pass for $30, with unlimited digital images from your visit.  It's worth it if you plan to ride all the rides with photos, and is good for everyone in your group.  Cinderella also has a special Tea Time, inviting all royal guests to be a part of the party.  This and Character Dinners are available for an extra cost and seating in limited.  We have yet to try one of these events, but they sound entertaining.

Choo Choo!!!!  Be sure to jump aboard the Huff Puff & Whistle Railroad for a train ride through the park.  It's a great way to rest your feet, let a little one nap, or to just get a lift to the other side of the park.  Stroller parking is available at each train station.  Another few happy areas of the park are Grandfather Tree, a talking tree with a tree house, equipped with slides on either side. My sweet daughter had a lovely time in that area with her very own Grandfather.  And Little Dreamers Nursery Rhyme Play Area, where some of our favorite nursery rhymes come to life. Great photo opportunities are to be had all around.

Speaking of little ones, Story Land has a Baby Bungalow especially for parents to feed, change and relax with their babies.  They also have Mother Hubbard's Cupboards located at the front of the park, where visitors can store items such as coolers and bagged lunches, as well as a calming room.

If you don't feel like packing a lunch, there are multiple places to grab a bite to eat throughout the park.  We always end up at the World Pavilion, where they serve things like burgers, pizza, mac & cheese, popcorn shrimp, turkey burgers and even PB & J.  And for the grown-ups who need a little boost in the morning, there is also a Dunkin Donuts located right in the park after you enter the gates!

Story Land has a couple of ways to get cooled off on a hot Summer day.  They have cool misting tents located around the park for a quick walk though.  Another way to beat the heat is the Oceans of Fun Sprayground, a water play area with a large yellow interactive submarine and coral structures that spray water at unsuspecting passersby.  Don't forget to pack your swimsuits, water shoes and a towel.  We spent quite a bit of time in this area.  All the kids really enjoyed it.  There are also a few rides that you WILL get wet on, like Dr. Geyser's Remarkable Raft Ride (my personal favorite!), Bamboo Chutes and Pharaoh's Reign.

Story Land even has accommodations for your furry four-legged friends while you venture though the park.  Kennels are free of charge on a first come, first served basis. To check in your pet, you must visit Yum Yum Junction, where you will be given a code for the kennel of your choice. The kennels are self service, owners are responsible for checking in on their pets for water refills and walks.  Story Land also has lockers, strollers, double strollers, wheel chairs and ECVs available to rent for the day.

We sure did have a fabulous day of family fun at Story Land, making memories to last a lifetime!   Whether you are driving up for just the day or spending a few days (there are a variety of lodging options in the area for you to choose from), my children and I highly recommend taking the trip there, for a day packed with story book adventure.  So pack your bags and hit the road for a magical journey to Story Land...Don't forget your camera!!
