This is it, the last weekend before school ends and summer officially begins. Are you ready? Plans lined up? Summer checklist ready to go? (If not, download ours.) Camps arranged and phone contacts entered for playdates?
Do you have a special tradition on the last day of school? It's those fun and silly traditions that kids remember years later. No need to make it complicated -- a water balloon fight or even ice cream for dinner are a great way to kick off the summer. See some more ideas in our article.
This weekend looks like it will be gorgeous, and there are lots of fun things to do in Greater Lowell:
- Wednesday, June 13, 6 PM: Toe Jam Puppet Band performs at the Livingston Street Playground as part of the Tewksbury Family Summer Concert Series. Bring blankets, chairs and a picnic dinner.
- Saturday, June 16, 8 AM-2 PM: Yankee Bassmasters of New England Fishing Derby at Micozzi Beach in Billerica from 8-12, followed by a free BBQ lunch.
- Saturday, June 16, 8:30 AM: Football for You event for kids age 9-14 at UMass Lowell. Registration required in advance. Boys and girls will meet Patriots players and enjoy a free, non-contact football camp.
- Saturday, June 16, 10 AM-4 PM: Strawberry & Arts Festival in Westford center. Strawberry shortcake, vendors, and arts and crafts.
- Saturday, June 16, 11 AM-7 PM: African Festival in Lowell at the Sampas Pavilion. Enjoy performing arts, multinational food, dance, music and traditional and modern African crafts.
- Saturday, June 16, 12-10PM: A Midsummer Dream Downtown Festival takes place on Merrimack Street in downtown Lowell. Enjoy fairy storytimes, fairy garden crafts, pixie market with arts, crafts and goods, a roving performance of A Midsummer Night's Dream, and live music.
- Sunday, June 17, all day: Celebrate your Dad, your Stepdad, your Granddad or any important Dad figure in your life on Father's Day.
- Tuesday, June 19, 6:30-8:30 PM: A double event in Billerica center -- the Toe Jam Puppet Band performs at the Billerica Library Summer Reading Kickoff, and the Chelmsford Community Concert Band performs a summer concert on the Billerica common.
- Wednesday, June 20, 4-7 PM: Head to Shaw Farm in Dracut for the 5th Annual Celebrity Scoop Fest to benefit the Joseph Middlemiss Big Heart Foundation. Enjoy live music, family activities and Shaw Farm ice cream.

My family will be setting up and enjoying an epic Cub Scout campout on Saturday, and then recovering on Sunday. I might sneak away for some strawberry shortcake though :-)
