Mark your calendars, Kids Eat Free on Halloween at the Jon Ryan's Pubs in Billerica and Tewksbury!*
Last Thursday I had the opportunity to take the night off from cooking and enjoy a great dinner with my family at Jon Ryan’s Pubs in their new Billerica location at the historic Manning Manse, 56 Chelmsford Rd (Route 129). The original Tewksbury location at 1795 Main St opened in 2011 and is a local favorite family destination, so I was so happy to see that they had expanded to Billerica!

Founded by Bob Ryan and named for his son, Jon Ryan’s is a family-owned and operated restaurant with a warm, inviting neighborhood atmosphere. Many family members can be seen working and managing the restaurant on site. It’s a great, kid-friendly spot with plenty of booth space, fun kids menus to color and TVs.
You’ll notice an old bicycle hanging on the wall when you first walk in. It holds very important significance to the Ryan family and is incorporated in their logo. Bob used his earnings from running the neighborhood paper route to buy his first bike, which was handed down, along with the paper route, to his younger siblings. The bike symbolizes the Ryan’s value for family, friends and community that is palpable in their restaurant.
The menu is huge! Everything looked good and it was a tough decision choosing from many delicious options. They offer something for everybody: all kinds of appetizers, burgers, sandwiches, soups, salads & sides, a special Fall into Winter menu with seasonal items, smaller “pub portions” for a smaller price ($4.99!), a variety of poultry, seafood and beef & pork “pub favorites” entrees ($11.99-$19.99), and even a gluten-free menu. For grown-ups, they have a wide selection of wine and beers, bottles or on tap. If you have room for dessert, their menu is extensive!
For children 10 and under, the kids menu had all of my boys’ favorite things, like pizza, grilled cheese, pasta, etc., all for $6.99 and below. They also offer free refills on sodas and Shirley Temples and all kids meals come with a free ice cream sandwich.
We were greeted by son Michael and our server Keith was excellent, serving up our drinks and the boys’ chocolate milks right away. For “The First Mile,” we started with hot, creamy spinach & artichoke dip and jumbo soft pretzel sticks served with white queso cheese sauce and whole grain honey mustard for dipping. Yummy!

For dinner, the boys went with the grilled cheese and fries. I had Jon Ryan’s western burger, a half pound fresh Angus burger, flame broiled and topped with Applewood bacon, melted cheddar, deep fried onion rings and their sweet chipotle BBQ sauce. My husband ordered the new southwestern turkey burger, flame broiled, topped with a pepperjack cheese on their grilled signature roll with lettuce, tomato, salsa, guacamole and sweet potato fries. We were completely full, so Keith was nice enough to send the boys home with their ice cream sandwiches to enjoy later.
The food was delicious, the portions extremely generous and all reasonably priced. We’ll be going back soon so I can try the new Reese’s peanut butter pie!
