Have a "Better for You" Father's Day With These Tips

More often than not, men get lumped into the logic that when it comes to what they want to eat, giant slabs of meat and heavy sides are in demand. For some, that might be true, but you can still enjoy Father’s Day without it being a cholesterol-fest. 

A meaty celebration is fine and still doable, but these tricks will help you lighten things up a bit while still keeping dad and his appetite happy:

Mixed Grill: Don’t deny dad his carnivorous cravings if he has one, but make sure there’s a slew of other healthy options as well. Rather than loading up solely on beefy steaks when you’re shopping, try this logic: Two parts healthy to one part not. For instance, if you’re buying rich red meat, make sure you’ve got a lean protein and plenty of vegetables to supplement it. 

Meaty, But Not Meat: Similarly, when choosing what veggies to add in to your Father’s Day menu, think of “meaty” options like Portobello mushrooms, eggplant and cauliflower “steaks” that you make by cutting thick slices horizontally from a head (rather than breaking into florets). Whether grilled, roasted or baked, there will be no concern over feeling hungry, as these veggies pack plenty of density and fiber. 

Lighten Up: Potato salad and other common sides associated with grilling and barbeque season are easily lightened up with Hellmann’s® Light Mayonnaise, which has less than half the fat of regular Hellmann’s and is made from 100% cage-free eggs. Bye Bye, Buns: Using lettuce instead of, say, tortillas or buns is a refreshing way to eat meat.
