Summer Fun Product Review: Hasbro NERF Water Blasters

By Barbara Evangelista, Publisher May 20, 2015
My kids practically fell over when I pulled two brand new Hasbro NERF water blasters from my Summer Fun Party shipping box. It was all I could do to get them back for the party this past Saturday. NERF battles are a major event at my house, since my kids and most of the kids in the neighborhood are in the 6-14 NERF-loving age range. I know they will tons of fun with these water blasters.

We received
the NERF Super Soaker Flashflood Water Blaster and the NERF Rebelle Super Soaker Tri Threat Crossbow Water Blaster. Although I was tempted to have the Summer Fun party guests wear bathing suits and have a water blaster battle, I didn't think that would go over too well with parents. Instead, the kids had to try to knock over a pile of cups.  They were actually great about sharing the water blasters and helping to rebuild the pile of cups.  They refilled the blasters from a huge bucket of water (thanks to the dads who refilled and carried it!).

The Flashflood water blaster can reach up to 38 feet away and has 2 different nozzles. It took a few tries until we learned that it's best to have the nozzle handle on the top pushed all the way in when using the pump-action nozzle on the bottom of the blaster; otherwise, you get some leaking.  It definitely takes a bit of coordination and strength (not too much though -- the blaster isn't difficult to use by any means). The blaster would be great for kids 6 and up, and especially great for 10 and up, who would be able to really get their friends wet!

The Rebelle crossbow blaster is really cool. It has a crossbow on the front that actually rotates, so you can line it up vertically and get 3 blasts of water top to bottom, or you can turn it so it's horizontal and send the water spraying wide for maximum friend soakage.  As one of the parents said, "I loved how the girl's water gun had 3 spots to squirt out of -- more water fun!"  It also can spray up to 35 feet.

We go through water squirters like crazy since, I must admit, I tend to buy the cheapo versions from the discount store. These NERF water blasters are far better in terms of quality and ease of use. They're solid, well-designed, and sized just right for kids 6-12.  I can see a summer full of epic water battles ahead of us.

Both water blasters are available at www.HasbroToyShop.com, Amazon (Crossbow and FlashFlood), and at most major toy retailers.

I received free product for party guests to try and for the purposes of this review. No other compensation was received, and my opinions are my own.
