DIY Fruit Bouquets

By Stephanie Clunn, North Lake Macaroni Kid January 21, 2015
Any occasion fitting of a bouquet can become an occasion for a homemade fruit bouquet! A fruit bouquet is tasty and beautiful and easy to make.

Here's what you need:
  • Fruit such as whole pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, strawberries, grapes and apples
  • A head of iceberg lettuce for the base
  • Kale for decorating
  • Flower cookie cutter (make sure they are sturdy)
  • Wooden skewers
  • Melon ball scooper
Here's what you do:
Cut up your fruit.

Cut out pineapple and apple flower shapes with your cookie cutter. (Hint: besides lemon, dunking your apples in salt water or lemon-lime soda will prevent browning!)

Cut melons in slices, remove rind and cut in half. Use melon ball scooper to prepare fruit.

Wash other fruits and let dry.

Wipe strawberries, do not use water.
Place the head of lettuce into a basket or bowl so it fits securely.

Gently poke skewers through fruit slices leaving room on end for flower fruit. Add melon ball, strawberry or grapes to finish off the "flowers".

Carefully poke fruited skewers into head of lettuce, arranging as desired.

When finished, cover base with kale.
Fruit bouquets can also be made in "mini" versions using a glass or small vase.

Homemade fruit bouquets are a hit at breakfast, lunch or dinner! We warn you though, the recipient of such a gift might find it hard to eat because of its beauty!
