Pumpkins Aglow at Edaville USA = Pumpkins, Trains & Dinosaurs!

By Barbara Evangelista, Publisher October 29, 2014
We ventured down to Pumpkins Aglow at Edaville USA in Carver MA last weekend to check out the festivities.  It is quite a drive (about an hour and a half from Westford) but my kids LOVED it!  It was a very different experience from a typical amusement park outing.  Even my hard-to-impress 11-year-old said it was "Awesome!"

Edaville has recently added the new Dinoland area, which was the highlight of the evening.  Dinoland is entered through enormous wood and stone gates (think Jurassic Park).  There is a flat and wide path through the woods, with enormous -- possibly "life"-size? -- animatronic dinosaurs in the woods off the path.  Each dinosaur is roped and fenced off, so no climbing or touching, and there are information signs with the name and details for each one. Dinoland was quite an experience in the dark!  Each of the dinosaurs was lit up with colored lights, and there was a dry ice fog, quite thick in some areas. Several of the dinosaurs roar and grunt, and they make very realistic movements.  There were also many carved pumpkin displays throughout Dinoland, each with a different theme -- we saw a Thomas the Train display, Mickey Mouse, skeletons, and many more beautifully-carved pumpkins.  All in all, the Dinoland experience was amazing -- creepy, fascinating, and fun!  My children are 7, 10 and 11 and they loved it, but if your children are very young or sensitive, I would do the Dinoland tour during the day hours.

There are also a number of rides at Edaville, and your entrance ticket ($20 for Pumpkins Aglow) includes unlimited rides. There are rides for little ones: spinning planes and rocket ships, a carousel and a tiny little roller coaster-type ride. There are a few for more adventurous little ones: balloons that spin and rise up in the air, a ferris wheel, etc.  Older kids and adults with hearty stomachs will love the Scrambler. Don't forget to check out the brick building; there are train sets, indoor play areas, and bumper cars in there.  Plus, everyone gets a ride on the Edaville train, which creaks and sways through the woods and out alongside the cranberry bogs.

There's a nice cafe with a good selection of simple meals, such as pizza, grilled cheese, mac and cheese, burgers and dogs, fruit, nachos and more, plus a popcorn stand, candy store and bakery/coffee shop.

It looks like Edaville has huge plans for the future.  Alongside the entrance walk are signs about the new water park that will be open in 2016, lots of new rides and areas opening next year, and when you ride the train, you can see an area that they've plotted out for go-carts and a new log flume ride.

Pumpkins Aglow is sadly over for the season but be sure to check it out next year! The Festival of Lights opens November 21st and runs through January 1, and they also have a Poilar Express Train Ride every weekend from November 21st to January 1st.  Go to www.Edaville.com for more information and to purchase tickets.
