Happy Holidays from WestFit!

Many Americans – young and old – gain an average of 1 to 7 pounds over the holiday season. We can thank our inclination to overindulge on those the holiday "goodies" and our reluctance to deprive our young ones from experiencing a little holiday cheer. While the statistics can be alarming, the true concern is the effort we all need to make to lose the few extra pounds in the post-holiday period. Here are a few things you can take into consideration as you partake in all things "merry and bright."

Some ideas to reduce holiday munching:

First, don’t let your kids skip a meal – especially breakfast – and pack some healthy snacks. Start with fruits and veggies. Not eating will leave you and your children overeating at your events.

Stay hydrated, preferably with water or something low-calorie.

Stand firm and put your foot down. No sweets at least one hour before bedtime. Excess sugar intake interrupts your child's mood and sleeping patterns – not to mention your own ability to have a restful night's sleep.

Make time for physical activity. Scheduling some form of physical exercise can help children control weight, kick-start their metabolism and keep the extra pounds off.

All things considered, the holidays are a time for us to enjoy our time with our families and friends. We hope you take a little time to breathe and enjoy every moment.
